Mitch - We're from two different generations, the old fahrts are analog/FM trained and the younger guys are digital/Internet trained. Old fahrts are used to having music delivered to their doorstep via the old FM radio system, now-a-days you have to actively seek out new artists using the Web, You Tube, etc. I find new music because I look for it, but a lot of guys from my generation are still listening to the guys they love and grew up with. Radio is a wasteland and useless for finding new bands and music, unless you're listening to a college station. A lot of people are just lazy about seeking out and listening to new bands/music. It's a generational thing.

Yes I agree of course there is, it's just down to a bit of apathy why I don't listen to current stuff. I'm ok though, but I should 'evolve' a bit with the times though. Ha, when I was 15 all I listened to was rockabilly! A couple of years later I was listening to psycadelic 60s stuff, some jazz fusion, and a lot of the old rock stuff, I've never realy listened to anything currentEye Ball

I love the jazz era

The bass drum might be Pearl or Yamaha? Those look like the ones we have on some Pearls at school.

And all great tunes! Luv 'em!

Hey when I was 15 I listened to Led Zeppelin, with a little Led Zeppelin on the side, and every once in a while I'd throw on some Led Zeppelin. I had 15 T-shirts. Led Zeppelin T-shirts lol.

Great points guys. Radio does seem like a ghost of its former self.

Youtube is the place to cruise fersure! I've been up until 4 every morning these days just clicking and following one thing to the next. Again I focused on the new R&B, rap and hip hop because it seemed like a bunch of over-produced crap to me. But I found some stuff I really liked. The rap that's self-aware and funny is tops IMHO.

Here's a clip that I am not saying is good, but very funny to me - I'm pretty sure this guy is making it up as he goes. For instance, halfway through the song he fumbles and says "in the bity" instead of "in the city", so he just keeps saying "in the bity".....and then calls the song "In The Bity". Too much!

Maybe 'lazy' was too strong a term to use. The only time I listen to radio these days is when I'm in the car. My radio is tuned to the Penn State University station. They have a couple of really good DJ's that play all kinds and styles of music during their programs. That's when I get to hear bands I've never heard before and discover an artist or two of interest in the offering. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I have to listen to a lot of drek before a gem shows up, but then it's always been like that. You just have to be open to all of it and once in awhile you find a Mars Volta, or equivalent. Worth the trouble says I. guitar2

Here's a pretty neat Tame Impala clip from 2010. Australian band that's doing pretty well. Heavily influenced by the past! The video is quite the concept...if you like this tune check out "Expectation" and count six through it - incredible variations on the time signature.

Great thread guys!

This group I post is called The Suffers, from Houston, TX. The bass player and I were in a band for a few years together, back in the early 2000s. The keys player is also an accomplished drummer, who played in another Houston band called Los Skarnales for a while.

They will be on The David Letterman Show on March 30th!!

I give you... The Suffers
