Slingerland Stage Band With Mystery Floor Tom Last viewed: 42 seconds ago

Why would they put a re-ring at the 8" point of the drum? Did they do that for the 16x16 floor toms?

I don't know, but I read that Slingerland discontinued making shells with three rings in 1941 and at one point they did offer 16x14 floor toms. Maybe that's how they made that particular size. Whatever the origin, it's a cool drum and I'm guessing fairly rare.

There is a definite ridge that runs the circumference of the shell, exactly at the mid-point, that can be seen on my drum. I guess I'll have to wait until I re-wrap it to see what's going on.

The Band

Never play it the same way once.

Can you show a picture of your drum, is it a Slingerland? I don't see anything on mine.

I'll try to get a pic, but it's a blue sparkle wrap that has turned almost black with age.

Do you know why they used the three rings?

I had heard once but can't recall why, If I remember correctly Leedy did it also for a period.
