Tell me about a bronze Supra Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Loading...

I have the opportunity to buy a '60s 5.5 x 14 Supra that is bronze. Are they very rare? Is there much difference in sound from a Ludalloy or COB Supra? What do you think would be a fair price? I haven't seen pics but the seller says it's about a 7 cosmetically.

Thanks in advance.

Never heard of one from the 60's, until now.

Best sounding snare drums Ludwig makes! Not many if any KS ones I'd imagine. Finding a keystone bronze would be a real score. I have no idea about price though. I don't recall seeing one before.

Too many great drums to list here!

Well, the seller said it was a '60s drum. He's a well-known session player who bought it off a collector. Unfortunately, he's busy getting ready for holidays, so I don't know if I can get a picture of it right now. I only want a keystone badge. If it's a B/O badge or later, I'll pass. He's hesitant to sell, so I don't want to push him right now.

Thanks for the responses.

I have a hammered bronze 6.5x14 supra, bought a couple of months ago, there is a thread about it here on VDF. This is a very superior snare drum, and I use it extensively for small group jazz (it would obviously work equally well for other, louder, styles, too). If I remember correctly, when trying to date my drum, I was told here or on Cymbalholic that Ludwig started making these drums in the 1980s.

Best,

Magnus

Supras are 5" not 5.5". Doubt it's bronze if it's from the '60s and vice versa.

my 60's cat do not offer a bronze snare!

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

The seller had left on holiday when I posted this. He and I have been internet friends for several years. He's played with McCartney, Dire Straits, The Water Boys, Julian Cope, and many others. I can see no reason that he would deceive me. He was quite clear; this is a 5.5 bronze Supra from the '60s. I had never heard of one either, which is why I posted here. He is a major collector, and has many prototypes; maybe this is one. As I said, he is hesitant to sell, so if it were a newer, more common model, that wouldn't make any sense. I will post pics as soon as he gets back.

Thanks for the input.
