Well, at least that's not a Hammered Bronze Supra... (Not that you said so, relayer, but since that's what I was talking about in my post in the beginning of this topic.)

From relayer

Here's the drum in question.

If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck...

How much is he asking? (If I may ask.) I just imagine it's a lot. I've been at this for more than 50 years, that's the -first- bronze keystone Supraphonic I've ever seen.

Too many great drums to list here!

Looks like aged brass to me. It also looks like the surface area right around the tone knob is pushed in a bit. Which I believe isn't that uncommon to happen with brass snares considering how soft brass is. And I don't think bronze would dent quite like that. But then again, I'm no metallurgical scientist...and my screen color could be off.

+1 on the aged brass. Bronze ages to a less-yellow, more-reddish hue.

Also note that the badge has no serial (that I can see) and the tone

control appears to be an early 3/4" knob version. It would be helpful to

know what strainer (P-83?) it has.

The center bead looks larger to me than a garden variety Supraphonic

so I'm guessing that it's a welded-shell Super in brass.

We'll know when the OP is able to see the drum in person, huh?

Whichever it turns out to be, it's a nice drum.

Lacquered brass Super Ludwigs were a catalogued item in the early 60s. I've only seen 1 other. Nice and VERY desirable drum.

From the 1960 Ludwig catalog: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/ludwig_snaredrums/1959_LUDWIG_SNARES1.jpg

Cool drum. I noticed this last week, while looking through the catalogs and thought, "I've never seen one of these Super-Ludwig drums".

... and now I have. ;)

Thanks for sharing. I hope you can work out a deal with the seller.

I've known the seller for a long time via the internet. He's offering me the drum for a pittance. I on the other hand, feel I should pay him for what it's worth. Over at DFO price suggestion have ranged from $650 to well over a thousand.

Any input from you guys?

Thanks.

Probably not what you want to hear, but regular COB Supra's can go for that range. :(

Based on the picture you posted, it looks like the drum does have some scuff marks. Since the shell was lacquered bass, I'm not sure how you would clean/brighten up this drum. Maybe the lacquer is completely gone, so normal techniques would be used.

I would be straight up with sell/friend and discuss all/any of the issues and come to an agreed price. I'm guessing somewhere in the middle ($800-ish), if that's what you both can agree on.

One thing's for sure, it's a rare bird. I hope you can get it.
