No religious talk in here please. Next thing you know, people here will be talking politics. But, of course to so many (too many), these two things have become one big intertwined thing. I come in here for drum talk, and to escape from the religious and political clap trap that is bombarding us everywhere else. In here, my religion and politics are put on the shelf.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

It seems as if the OP has fled the site! Laughing HLaughing H

I think value would depend on if the shells are the 3 ply with re-rings or the 5 ply.

From Pounder

Give ME a break. Stated clearly the drums have been in possession since the 70s. Aside from a good faith attempt at finding the ownership of them, by alerting the authorities, There is no reason the drums shouldn't be considered of a certain value as they are cosmetically. This is a set of drums we're talking about, not a symbol of all the thefts that have happened in the world. And my opinion should in no way be misconstrued as condoning thievery, which is wrong, plain and simple.

Still not getting it are you.The initial crime has far and away been covered by the statute of limitations,be it a larceny or a burglary. But the part you refuse to understand is that criminal possession of stolen property is an ONGOIN CRIME.Criminal liability still attaches.Just because it happened in 75,does NOT mean that you get to keep the property like you found sunken treasure. You can't sell it because it dosen't belong to you.The only way to legally sell that property is in a police auction. The property is surrendered. The police property clerk, holds the property for a certain amount of time, and if the rightful owner does not claim the property, then auctions it off, with proceeds going to the municipality concerned. The RIGHTFUL OWNER.So if you want them that bad....buy them the right way..or not at all.

How much more simple can I make this?Being in possession of stolen property...with or without your knowledge is a CRIME.An ONGOING CRIME...still...now...in real time. How can anybody not get this.

No..there drums are not a symbol of of all the thefts around the world. But they are an example of the appathy, and in general,a prime example of the "so what attitude ",when it comes to making a buck.

Tell me nobody PM'd this guy.How did the 1300 dollar price that the seller wanted, start to get thrown around?Lame

And just to clarify again.I'm not stating the seller is a thief,or that i'm so much better than he is,but its time to DO THE RIGHT THING .Just quite simply...what would YOU want to happen.....if they were YOUR drums? No really....give me a break

I think this may be very different if YOU were the one who got the kit as a gift from your Dad whether they were stolen or not. As I said before, I think all of you are right or correct. I also think that it is irrelevant. No one knows what they would do until they are in the same situation. That goes for most things in life people happen to be judgemental about. 1300? For some hot drums with no badges in a vanilla color? Get out! LOL! J/K.

From parry012

Hey my dad has this old set of Slingerlands from the 70s. He believes them to be about 1975. He bought them in 75 brand new off someone who stole them off a train. He took the serial numbers off in case he ever got caught. Anyone have any insight on to what the value of these may be? here are some pics......thanks!

I would give them away...Or better i would not try to sell them i would say away from that deal....Alittle story years ago[1985} a guy came by who wanted to sell a 1930's Ludwig B/B to me for 50.00 after taking to him i give him the 50.00 for it..The drum sat at my home work shop for about 6 weeks..Then I started to clean it up new heads ete inside the shell a guys name/address/phone number was on a piece of paper taped to the inside of the shell.Live in the same town that i was in..So out of the blue i called the number and asked if they own a Ludwig snare drum the guy-{owners son}- i was talking to said yes that it was his dad's drum and that long with a set of Ludwigs ete were stolen from his house about 7 weels ago His dad passed away 6 mos before...So i did the right thing i give back the snare drum sure i lost 50.00 on the deal but i still walked away feeling great inside...Mikey

I have great neighbors....but there's this one house on the next street up the hill from mine and it's occupied by three young guys. Almost every summer's night, they are out on their back deck drinking and swearing. Somehow, they are oblivious to the fact that, generally, they are surrounded by polite and considerate people. It seems they just have taken it for granted that they are the only people on the face of the Earth. I'm sure that, they have been asked to quiet down. One night, not too long ago, one of them was screaming bloody murder at about 3:00 AM. The cops came and everything. Never did find out what happened...

As far as I can tell, they go to work everyday. They take good care of the yard. And, overall, they never blast loud music past a certain hour, etc. So, they're not terrible people. In fact, there are far, FAR worse people in the world. If there was a hurricane or a tornado and my house got wrecked and the only house that was standing was their house, they would likely lend a hand.

I don't want to put myself into the position of judge, jury or executioner here at VDF. In drum-related, ethical matters like this, I think it's enough to plant the seed of thought and then walk away and hope for the best. D' Drummer
