Who uses two rides? Last viewed: 7 minutes ago

I had a traditional Swish Engraved for a little while. Let's just say that I needed to sell it... I liked it, but not that much. I think I like a quick decay white-noise cymbal better than a swish or a china.I thought I was going to get rid of the Blue Bell (if you read my blog, you'd read about the shoot-out), but I think the Alpha Black is going away and the Blue Bell stays...My Bright Ride actually was a good deal @ $175!!! Yeah- there was a blip on the edge, but it's not very visible. It is a surprising cymbal, for certain...I want a Sig Dry Heavy Ride BADLY, but I don't want to pay for it, either!!!I will only buy if it's cheap...

I used to have a 20" Trad Medium Swish which I think was a special order because I could never find it in the Catalogs, but it was way too high pitched & irritated the crap out of me. This one is a medium/thin and is magical, sounds like the old jazz swish cymbals I've heard on records...yes, those old time things that looked like manhole covers. I need to explain that I bought & sold many-many cymbals off of cheeseBay before finding these. The 22" Trad is a Medium/Light with 3 factory holes for rivets, that looks like it's been through many wars but has the most beautiful tone I've ever heard...it is magic! Somehow over the years I've found these very special pies that make me happy, and lets admit it guys, no one else gives a sh!t except us. I start talking about this stuff & my wife looks at me like she wants to put a gun in her mouth! LOL! It's what makes us smile...and my cymbals make me smile!

Well mr. Fungus, I have had a few pies I wish I had back, like the blue label 602 thin crash. But as far as swishes and chinas, I could never get along with them. The best compromise I found was a ddrum shade that I aged with the bell from a Sabian clocktagon stacked on it!!!

I was thinking of buying a Sabian Rocktagon and trying it out. But then I'd be cheating on Paiste. But there hasn't been a Paiste china I like...

Cymbals make me happy, but also bum me out, as well.

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

Usually the third shot of tequila get the bride's knickers off in a hurry!!!

But a thunderous drum kit could do it, too. Maybe that's why I never scored with the bride when I played a wedding... DOH

How do you tell a crash from a ride cymbal if nothing is written on it? I have four cymbals that could qualify I guess. One with rivets, one that could have rivets but doesn't and two without rivets and I blast them all full force at some point during my blitzkrieg on the kit!

By weight, I suppose.

I see what you're saying. I have one ride that could easily be a crash/ride or even a heavy crash. There's one drummer who uses larger cymbals that were cut down, and his sound is definitely different.

On that thought process, what constitutes a "jazz" or a "rock" cymbal? Paiste used to have a "medium" cymbal. Not "Medium Crash", just plain "Medium". It was a do-it-all cymbal of sorts. I also have a funny feeling that you could take the labels off of some cymbals, identify them with numbers under the bell, and have a few that sound nearly the same, yet when their true identity was revealed, one was a light ride and one was a heavy crash yet were basically the same cymbal...
