Why so few toms? Last viewed: 3 minutes ago

Loading...

I rarely see kits with more than 2 mounted toms any more.

When girls come over, the first thing they do is jump behind the kit and roll across all of the toms.

A few remarked that they like more toms than less toms.

Is it because drummers want to be seen more than in the past and a row of toms obscures the view?

Has the entertaining of female company become less important?

Have as many as you want mate! For me I prefer the position of my Ride with one mounted Tom. If I need another Tom I add a second floor. I guess I love that classic look too.

I'm not convinced that getting laid is relative to the amount of extra wood you have placed around your kit, as opposed to the amount of extra wood in your trousers!! LoLoLoLo

I think Terry probably plays larger rooms.. so it's so not much of an issue...

At home i will set up a huge kit more drums and cymbals than needed , when i play out i will set up no more than a 5pc kit THE 80's ARE OVER and monster kit's are just no fun to lug around.

Just my observation most times when i see drummers using smaller kits say a 4pc those guy's will play with more skill than the guy's hidding their lack of talent behind big monster kit's , don't get me wrong big kit's draw big attention and turns you into eye candy to the ladies Walking

It is funny how things like this become fad and fashion. Music started to rebel against the extravagance of the 80's so one up and one down or two down has become the standard in most styles of music. That is all fine and good but I do like the voice that a 10" tom provides if the music is fitting.

What I really miss is cymbals. Seems like most guys in the rock and country genre are playing a hi-hat, ride and a pair of crashes. Lots of 15" and 16" hats (I have even seen a few 18" pairs), 22-24" rides and 19"-22" crashes. It's not unusual to see ride cymbals as crashes now. My musical sensibilities tend towards Manu Katche's playing on Sting's Soul Cages album. Extremely musical style but having access to a variety of articulate cymbal sounds was critical. That certainly doesn't work in every musical genre but geez can we bring back a few more cymbals without being frowned upon?

I just don't like how high I have to put rack toms in order form them to be close to each other. Two floors is ok, even tho I don't really need them, unless I'm playing Cream or Pink Floyd covers.

Girls always ignore me, no matter what I do with my drumkit.

Have a friend that always has to have 4 mounted toms...

And guess what?....Every song has to have a fill where he uses all 4 toms...Eye Ball

I keep telling him to take 2 toms off the kit,and put them in a closet....

I don't think he would know what to do on a 22,13,16 kit....

You could look at it the other way and say some drummers wont know how to use four toms.

I think that limited options makes most drummers sound the same through all the songs. I`ve always said,..it`s hard to play a drum you don`t have !i

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!
