once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Kevins your point noted... But as I said i was just giving a retort to the statements of a few of the forum members...as for johnnyringo's statement it will take 50 years ...i disagree. The owner of this set may have to wait a while but i bet if he put them up for sale right after he received them he could turn a profit ....there are collectors in Japan that have paid double for drum sets of true vintage collector quality.
Back in the 80s i collected astronaut autographs (pictures from nasa with astronaut scribblings. I once paid 1000.00 for a nasa crew sheet with the Apollo 11 crew sigs...10 years later i sold it for $10,000. An 8x10 pic with 3 signatures on it....why because it was one of the holy grails of that genre of collecting. The same with this drum set ...more rare then even the elusive Round badge bop sets ...the only reason you dont see more of them is because there aren't more of them

You were giving a crappy retort and it was outta line.
The only part I took exception to was the part I quoted.
And the more you go on about money, the more I'm grateful for not having much.....
Sorry double post. I still dig it. My previous modern set I gigged with was 7k so something so rare sure I see it worth it. Plus guys please check out vintage guitars, orchestral or even wind instruments.

Again I thank you Airborne for your truthful reply...i again state I am not trying to insult anyone but i dont think some on this post understand my stand re the difference in level of this collectible or they are unwilling to accept the varing degrees of collectability

Could a kit be re-produced to look just like this one at a fraction of the price? Yes! Could you re-produce pictures from NASA from the Apollo 11 crew with original signatures? No! That's the difference. That's why this much cash for this kit is outrageous, unless it was a one of a kind owned by a famous drummer and then I wouldn't care what condition it was in. Heck, I'd give my right kidney for a pair of Ringos chewed up drumsticks he played with on Ed Sullivan.band3
I would or I'd be sleeping in the car! Like I said before, even if I had the funds, I would never fork over $13,500 for any kit unless it was owned by a famous drummer, like Buddy. I don't think your logic makes sense, at that outragious price, there's no room for a substantial profit, unless possibly, it's still in your family in 50 years. No, I think that kit will go to a collector who doesn't care if he ever makes a profit and will just show it off to his adoring fans.In my opinion, being rare and in pristine condition doesn't qualify a kit to be the "Holy Grail". No, I'd only use that term for Ringos black oyster pearl kit, in any condition.
Johnny we just think a little different..... You would value a common drum set played by a master . i understand and appreciate that but I also appreciate the rareness of something with quality that may be one of very few or even the last one in mint condition that also happens to be rare

The difference Johnny is that a kit reproduced to look just like this would still be a knock off. Your thinking is skewed . Apollo 11 crew sheets with auto pen signature autopen autographs are certainly available and on the market worth about 20 bucks why... Because they are not authentic . For that matter you should never buy a real diamond when you can get a cubic zirconia,.....dont worry I wont mention that to your wife

I disagree, the original autographed Apollo signatures are a one of a kind and have historical value. I look at drums owned and played by famous drummers the same way, that's what gives them their value. You can spend a million bucks on a vintage kit, but it's not going to sound or be of better quality than a kit costing $2,500. I don't care how rare it is, that means nothing to me as far as drums go, but if you want to spend that kind of dough on a kit, knock yourself out, if your wife doesn't do it first.Sumo Dude
You can't honestly be comparing drums to something that has to be dug out of the earth.DOH
