For the record, you are getting quite a bit of hard to find hardware with that set. All you need once you have that set is another $10k for cymbals to go all around. Whoever gets it is going to pay a lot for the Camco key. Anyone got one offer? The whole thing probably does qualify for museum display given how complete it is.
Camco GRAIL Last viewed: 1 minute ago
Holy grail for me is quite humble actually..It would be my first drum kit that i purchased with my communion money, which my now deceased father took me to buy..It was the first and only time he ever did something like that with me, and it was a great day for both of us..That kit, was a first run 1983 Trak HRK drum kit in "Battleship grey" wrap finish with black hardware.. I was 12 going on 13.. I once found that exact kit on my local classifieds for something like $80 and i should have bought it, just to have it for nostalgic and sentimental reasons.. ;)
Well said, thank you for sharing your story.

Why do we insist on making drums into something more than they are. Leave rare and collectable to the coin collector, these are instruments made to be played and enjoyed, to bring out the unique creativity of each drummer who plays them. Sure, the drum shops who sell them, want you to think they are more than they are so they can demand outragious prices. But in reality, they are not.
Then the 1964 Austin-Healey is nothing more then a car, how could that be worth 50k,and a 140k house should never be worth more then 140k...its called DEMAND if there are 1000s of something and 100s of buyers price stays low.....(but get this) if there is only a few of something and it is high quality and it has been proven to be very worthy and in excellent shape and there are more buyers and interested people the price goes up....Look we may not be able to afford this or maybe don't care to pay this much but that doesn't devalue its relative worth ....after all it sold in 1 hour that alone means the purchaser knew what he wanted, knew what this sets relative worth was and dove on it fast ...why......BECAUSE HE KNEW HE MAY NOT SEE ONE IN THIS CONDITION EVER AGAIN.... STOP BEING SUCH A HATER AND APPRECIATE THAT SALES LIKE THIS ONLY HELP US ..THE PEOPLE WITH LESSER COLLECTIONS BY REINFORCING THE FACT THAT THERE IS SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT VINTAGE DRUMS
Hey guys ,...look lets not argue with each other.. (after reading back this thread it sounds silly) lets all agree that we love and appreciate vintage drums ,that this set is exceptional (forget the price). And weather you agree with the price or not it did sell for that sum .

I'm not arguing about this, are you? I just don't think it's an exceptional kit just because someone says it is. That's just another nice vintage kit to me, nothing special. If someone bought it in an hour, good for them, I think they were foolish to do so.
There is no comparison to a drum and a car, that car you mentioned took a lot more effort and resources to build, not an easy task to build a nice car, I know guys who make quality drums in there garage.
Wood, metal and plastic sure has gotten expensive. Even if I had Donald Trumps bank account I wouldn't fork over that kind of cash unless it was owned by Buddy Rich, had Ringos signature and blessed by the Pope.DOH
Does being owned by a famous drummer make the drums sound better?

Johnny I detect Pretzel Logic! Your friends may make drums in their garages but THEY CANT MAKE AN ULTRA RARE MID 60S CAMCO BOP SET W/ ALL HARDWARE IN MUSEUM CONDITION!
With respect - took you long enough! :)
Do yourself and your sanity a favour and walk away from this. Trust the silent readership knows you are correct. It's a very simple concept and you can explain to a person but you can't make them understand. :)
