I disagree, the original autographed Apollo signatures are a one of a kind and have historical value. I look at drums owned and played by famous drummers the same way, that's what gives them their value. You can spend a million bucks on a vintage kit, but it's not going to sound or be of better quality than a kit costing $2,500. I don't care how rare it is, that means nothing to me as far as drums go, but if you want to spend that kind of dough on a kit, knock yourself out, if your wife doesn't do it first.Sumo DudeYou can't honestly be comparing drums to something that has to be dug out of the earth.DOH

you are totally missing my point

Of course I am and in fact the Drums are more functional...and in this case will probably increase in value faster then your wifes diamond engagement ring(try to sell that for what you paid for it tomorrow)

It may work out in the end, but only time will tell if $13500 now is more later. Certainly most of the Dynasonics someone mentioned have dropped in value over the last few years.

I know that I missed the boat on Austin Healey 3000's when they were $10k. Tough to find a good one now for under $50k and they only cost a couple thousand in their day.

Someone above also mentioned people out of work. That's surprising. I hear on the news that unemployment has been solved. Did I miss something?

You've been watching the wrong news.

I can't believe I'm having this discussion, you're drinking the kool-aide. When you fall into that collectors mind set of what makes drums valueable, you've lost the whole point of owning and playing this fine instrument.

Holy Grail for me would be a 3D moire in Bop sizes…Still a VERY nice set. And about the price I think all of us think someone else's property is not worth what the actual owner think is worth…Until is our turn to price our stuff…

Holy grail for me is quite humble actually..It would be my first drum kit that i purchased with my communion money, which my now deceased father took me to buy..It was the first and only time he ever did something like that with me, and it was a great day for both of us..That kit, was a first run 1983 Trak HRK drum kit in "Battleship grey" wrap finish with black hardware.. I was 12 going on 13.. I once found that exact kit on my local classifieds for something like $80 and i should have bought it, just to have it for nostalgic and sentimental reasons.. ;)

Here's my holy grail, and it looks like setting my threshold so low saved me a lot of money.
