I haven't checked all my luddies,but there's a 67 16x16 floor tom sitting next to me,that has no paint on the bearing edge,but I could I've seen some that do.Steve B

Ditto! I've seen some with paint and some without. If I get one with paint on the edges I always clean them up. 'Should be' wood to head contact. (No wise-cracks please. lol)

No wise cracks here! The last thing that post needs is a reference to any type of crack. Hope you enjoy your new toy John and thanks for the new stuff to work on. I'll be on it shortly.

Robyn, it was no trouble at all picking up the new heads for you. I take any opportunity I can get to hang at the drum shop for a bit. Hell, sometimes I stop there just because I'm within a few miles of the place!

Is it common for 60s bearing edges have the white paint on them?

Mine did not have paint on the edges. not sure about others tho.

I got one of them too, about 1/2 mile away. Careful now, it's a short step to politics once the "g" word is used!

Here's a teaser 'before I shine the hell out of it' shot.

It'll look new when I'm done with it...

PS - The badge number says 65' (it's a 24000 number) but, the red felt muffler and baseball bat muffler arm say 63'!!! I need Mike Layton to look at this one for me.

Thanks for for the tease John, just what i need this early in the morn, no need for coffee im wide awake now. That is a very nice drum. Clean up shouldnt be that hard on that litl beauty. So just how pricy is a drum like that?

that's gonna clean up nicely!

john-I can't read the badge. if its a 5 digit and in the 24000 range, it would be an early 64 drum most likely. they were using the red felt bat mufflers in that period as well.

cant wait for the after shots.

Mikey - Badge number is 24055, so 64' it is. I thought they only used the red felt mufflers in 63' that's why I was hoping you'd look at it for me, you know more about those Ludwig details than I ever will.

robyn - They go for around $500. I was going to put it out for $450. which is an excellent 'quick-sale' price for a 60's J-fest in this color and this great a condition. The drum has the old-school COB hoops and hardware. It even has the original heads! I can vouch for the quality, I already own one of these, a 62' Sky Blue Pearl JazzFest and it is an amazing sounding drum. Great, classic woody tone. It's going to clean up looking like new.

I paid less for it than I'm asking, so if you're really interested, I have 'a little room' to negotiate.
