I hear ya Mark. How about a bass player that feels he needs to stand right in front of the drum set while your playing? Or a guitar player that turns around and tells you what key the next song is but doesn't tell you the name of the song? :)
Poll, which drummer inspired you to play drums ringo starr or dennis wilson ? Last viewed: 1 hour ago
Why do guitarist and bass players insist on putting their guitar stands right in front of the kit and then proceed to bang your cymbals when they put their guitar on the stand? I can't tell you how many times I've had to tell my bass player to put HIS bass in front of HIS amp. It boggles the mind.
...and why is a guitar headstock in place of the drummers face in the gig pics? I guess we suffer these "slights" cause we have the most fun!
Well I started in the school band before either of the two nominees came on the scene. Gosh I'm gettin old.:D
Dave Clark.......
I would imagine that Ringo had more of an impact on most of us then we truly imagine. The general impact of the Beatles on society was a benchmark moment that charted new territory for music and musicians. How many drummers that have influenced us over the years were influenced by the Beatles or by other artists that were influenced by them? Of course, then you can trace the Beatle's influences and that becomes the nature of music history.
The Beatles have had zero impact on anything related to my personal being.Laughing H
My old man banging out Merle, Waylon, Cash, Twitty, Statler Brothers etc. with his band, The Junkyard Dogs when I was pretty young was where the seed was probably planted. I didn't start playing til he died though (not looking for a pity party if that is how it sounds....lol) and I found his Slingerlands in his attic. The first "play-alongs" I did were obviously Stephen Adler and the Appetite album mostly, until I learned just enough to really suck at drums, which is where I currently reside on the skill-o-meter.

We`re all influenced by legends of our time but the original question here was "Did Ringo or Dennis" spur you onto the sticks. In my case it was Ringo but i was heavily into the "Surf Music" of the Beach Boys at that same time as well.Ringo is the reason why i`ve made my living on drums for 44 yrs. That 60`s decade was so explosive musically and historically and hasn`t been matched since.Love Dennis, but vote Ringo...

Dennis all the way! Id like to see a drummer play open handed like he did keeping time with the left hand, arms uncrossed and with the right handed setup of the hats and snare on the left. Dennis was SOOO underrated and there was nothing great about ringos technique Cmon!! Ringo never looked "cool" like dennis, dennis was charasmatic , good looking and such a talent....I dont care if the beatles "sold more records" doesnt mean they made better music/ it was all marketing and commercialism and lets not forget that the beach boys BEAT the beatles in 1966 as THE biggest rock band in the world.
& by the way the CORRECT answer was/is HAL BLAINE!
