From kevins

Classy drums fer sure....I gave both of mine away to charity a couple of years ago....Just ordinary examples and none so nice as the ones pictured so far, so, what the heck.....some youngster can get his first chops on a decent drum....it's a good thing, no regrets.

Thats great Kevin!

Thank you!

Here's my baby. Top hoop is something I bought at at a salvage store. Got a scratch or two in the anodized finish; badge is scratched up, too.

I bought it for $60 from a CL guy who does drum education in public schools. One of the things he does to fund the program is sell old surplus drums from the schools. Apparently, this Acrolite shell had been sitting in a music room closet with no strainer or top hoop.

Not a problem; I had a nice 2.5mm triple-flanger with "Berkeley Schools" etched into it waiting for the right drum to come along, and a P-85 I assembled from parts from the junk bin at Starving Musician.

An Evans coated G1 on the top and an Aquarius snare side on the bottom, Puresound wires and she's complete.

I think this thrown together from parts aesthetic is just right for the utilitarian nature of this drum. Much as I appreciate seeing all these nice showpieces, there's not one I'd take over my Frankenlite.

And of course, it sounds amazing.

Just ran across the original receipt for for my 1964 Acro. Bought it new on 10/12/1964. S/N 64218. I paid $78.21 for the Acrolite snare, suitcase type case, stand, a pair of Ludwig 3A sticks and a copy of the "Ludwig Drum Method". I still have everything but the sticks and the case. It is in great shape for 50 years old. It's like part of the family....

I would love to see some anomalies like 5" 10 lugger or Super Sensitive version.

I was very close last year to buy SS, no pics in description. I believed guy was selling LM411 supra. But when I asked he highlighted that it's Acro. It was gone quickly.

Still wonder if such version exist.

A couple of Acrolites:

1) Polished Acro purchased from EMoonlightDrummer in 2012. Shell was stripped and highly polished to almost mirror-like finish. Badge not put on to avoid fakes, Millenium strainer- Awesome drum to view and play!

2) Date stamped Jan.1, 1967, White b-bat muffler, part of factory issued 1967 Black Laquer Club Date currently under restoration. Just finished cleaning up this Acro last week.

I have a 90's Black Galaxy too. What do y'all think of the Black Galaxy? I really like mine. Seems to get a bad rap??

From Purdie Shuffle

Hi All,I recently acquired a 'missing link' in my little 'early-date' Acrolite collection. I thought I'd show them off. It's not often you get to see all of the early Acro's in one place. I had a 6.5"x14" NYC Board of Ed 10-lug Acrolite, but I sold it in 1996. I'm still kicking myself in the butt for having sold that one. I'd have every early Acro in my collection if not for selling the 6.5". Two out of the three of these I got from my buddy Mike Layton. The guy buys well! Any time he puts a drum up for sale, I find myself reaching for my wallet.Enjoy the pix. (*Apologies for the dust on #3! I didn't notice the dust until after I took the photos.)Here is an old photo of the Keystone NYC Board of Ed Acro... wish I still had this one!Show your Acro-Love! And... you can still buy them for the same price today! Acrolites are by far the most underrated and under-priced for the quality, snare drums ever made.

Keep em coming! Every drummer should have at least one Acro in their arsenal.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I was always of the opinion that nothing beat a vintage wood snare. I was content with this until a pristine looking '69 keystone badge Acrolite caught my eye last year. Without ever having played one I plunked down 2 bills and have been in love ever since.

Articulate and full of warmth, oomph and personality beyond measure. And makes me appear to sound better than I actually am. Now it's my favorite snare and I'll go to my grave (or urn ... not sure which yet) with it :) She's the babe of the bunch.

I think Chief wins the VDF award for the Most Legit Vintage Drummer.

I love all the "1 Owner" drums in your collection.
