Howdy -
I'm putting this thread in the 'vintage drum' section because it is a rewrap job and not a restoration.
A week ago I purchased a 59' Luddie Hollywood kit that was missing the floor tom. The purchase included a Jazzfest snare, two - 8"x12" rack toms, and a 14"x22" bass drum in Sky Blue Pearl. I already have a 16" orphan in SBP from the mid-60's so the kit is essentially complete.
I was hoping to sand the wrap, get rid of the nasty stuff and then clear-coating it. No good... when the drums arrived and I had a chance to inspect the wrap up close and personal they are all ROACHED! Not worth the trouble. It's badly stained, cracked, and dull. As much as I hate to do it, in order to save the kit it's going to take a rewrap.
These transition badge drums are going to be keepers for me, I love these 59' kits. I have decided to break with tradition and wrap the kit for myself, not to keep it true to the original finishes offered by Ludwig at the time.
Delmar has just released a new version of the old Slingerland Capri finish! The new one has more color in it, turquoise is a featured fleck in the finish. I will be the first kit that Precision Drums will use this new wrap on. It only just came out yesterday! Check it out and tell me what you guys think: There is a swatch of the new Capri near the top of the page.

I love it myself. I can't wait to see it on these drums! I'll post photos down the road after I have them back together. I started the thread now because I wanted get your opinions on the new finish.
