Hey John,

Cool kit. I really dig that wrap. Can't wait to see them.

Greg - The drums will be as beautiful inside as outside! The thing I love about these 59' kits is the 3-ply African Mahogany lay-up in the shells. Then they added contrasting American Rock Maple re-rings. The insides of these drums is a thing of beauty if you love wood. And I do!

This period of drum making for Ludwig produced some of the highest quality drums/instruments that the company ever produced. That's why anything with a transition badge is sought after by vintage drum lovers. Classic Luddy sound. With this new Capri wrap on them, they're going to KILL!

Check back next week-end. I should have them back by then.

John ,

Oh man I cannot wait to see the drums in that wrap . Did you get a sample to see first or just see it online ?

Donnie - I picked it just from the swatch they posted at Precision. I already have a good idea how it's going to look in person. At this time they're only selling it in full sheets. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm sending the shells in to them, I would have had to buy 3 full sheets which would have produced left-overs. Because I'm having them do the installation I'm only being charged the per drum price for the wrap. In other words, I'm only paying for what I am using, there will be no 'extra wrap' left over.

Photos as soon as I get em... :D

Those should be nice John. I did a wet sanding attempt on a pre serial sky blue pearl marcher a few months back. It had faded to real dark blue and almost black. I sanded and sanded and never got into any light blue. I finally went more and more fine and polished back to a gloss. Its better but certainly not a success. I'm in no hurry to ever do that again. Will precision be able to send you any of the old wrap or is it not good for anything?I love that new Capri. That's always been one of my fave wraps too though ive never seen one in person. Do you do the drilling or do they do it? Never had anything wrapped before.Mike

Mike, so sorry... I missed this one completely!

Precision would send me back the wrap if I requested it, but the wrap is so black/stained that no amount of sanding would ever bring it back. I thought I could save it by getting down to a lighter layer, but this black gunk goes all the way through. I -had to- rewrap them.

Precision will do all the drilling for me. When I get the shells back they will be rewrapped, the edges will be cleaned up, and all holes will be opened. All I have to do is assemble and tune them! It really is worth it for me to pay them to do it. They are top professionals. Besides, my hands are still sore from Big Blue, I wanted to let somebody else have all the fun this time. :D

This new Capri is killer. It's going to be a popular finish!

John what a cool project! That new Capri wrap looks sweet. These will be MINT with nice new wrap on them. Wow. Really good choice. Bummer the LBP wrap was so toasted. But these will look just great with a new face on them!
