Glenn and John,i`ve really enjoyed watching the correspondence between you both. You`re right when you say"you guys would have made a great team together back when",but the greatest thing about this... is that your making a great team right now! Nice to know that such a little tag has garnered some attention from VDF members and that` it`s production is in the best hands it can possibly be in.Kudos to you both for taking on this monumental task and looks like your tags will be of much better quality than Gary N`s and mine`s original ones. From the.jpeg photos posted-looks like these will be as perfect as perfect can be and thanks so very much for all your hrs. upon hrs. of dedication to getting these cards out.As Glenn has said:take your time John,no pressure here... and hope you`ve both had abit of fun along the way with this project.I know it must be a very challenging one!

Unbelievable what you`ve both done and the tideous work involved, but i`m sure these treasures will bring many smiles to so many folks out there. Thanks to you both very much for your time and hard work on this one.

Glenn - It was actually 'fun' for me to do it. I haven't stripped a job in years. It was enjoyable to flex muscles that haven't been used in years. It's like riding a bike... once I hopped back in the saddle, it all came back to me.

You and your boys are the best. I'd give you the shirt off my back. Well, not the 'Go Fuch's Yourself' shirt, but any of my other shirts for sure. LOL

John

Too many great drums to list here!

longjohn - Cool you're getting your DYNA back and after 15 years! You have to post some pix of that 6.5" when you get it back. I'm sure Glenn will add you to the mailing list, mate...John

Thanks Purdie, I will post for sure... (Just hoping the tag includes complete rust removal instructions)

Hi Gary,-Very happy that we both could be a small part of this tiny piece of drum history(just a little paper tag), that Glenn and John did such yomen service on and will be preserved for future generations.I also heard that this tag pre dates the early 60`s and a very interesting Joe Thompson thumbnail article that you posted-wonderful stuff! Do you still have your tag Gary as i wasn`t quite clear on this wth your post? I know they must be quite rare as i understand that after the tag was discontinued the instruction info was in a small booklet that came with the dyna(likely early 70`s) and before the tag idea- the instructions were printed directly on the batter head as was previously posted on this thread..Please let me know your thoughts...

WOW, it's been crazy cool to see this project unfold! Many thanks to Wayne, Gary, Joihn and Glenn for their time and effort! Would like to help defray the costs for all. My 67 Dyna will be happy to have a new/old Instruction Card adorning its shiny chrome side in a few weeks!

This is absolutely wonderful info on the early dyna hang tags and thank you very much for bringing me up to speed.Nice to hear the story of your personal hang tag history and hope it will stay in safe hands.Very smart of you to have scanned it before passing it on and i know you may have had a further project in mind when you took the scans.

Interesting that you found the 1947 Rocket Whistles cardboard display from a toy collector of all people-very rare indeed and i know you`ll keep it well preserved. The old thick dyna cardboard stock is one part of it`s longevity and the other is as you said"Because of the few that care here".Thanks very much Gary for your invaluable info and a pleasure to talk to you. We`ll soon see where this all goes...

Wayne

the one I had, after it was scanned, to a friend who has a very clean original Dyna that has the early head instructions. My original tag was found with a thin piece of wire as well. I don't think it is out of the relm that the hang tags could of been used from the start as well as the printed top heads at the same time. Those early stamped heads are rarer in clean condition and only found in the early years of the Dyna. Knowing what I know about Grossman Music it is no surprise to see the same yellow hang tag through the 1960s. 10 yrs into the drum game and after ordering all those different internal paper tags he must of ordered the hang Dyna tag in bulk. They come up on feebay from time to time in various conditions.

I was amazed to find from a toy collector the original 1947 cardboard display counter die cut box for the 3 dozen display of rocket whistles Mr. Thompson designed in the late 1940s. That's tough cardboard to locate. Thought all of that was long gone by now. Nope. Also some of Joes other earlier inventions had graphics on the box that encouraged you to cut them out to play with the kazoo/whistle.

Old thick 1960s Dyna paper preserved because of a few that care here. Preservation. Beautiful.[/QUOTE]
