Then it's all up to Glenn. I defer to him, it's his project. I was just his 'helper.'
If any alterations become necessary, I'll be glad to make the corrections and set the job up for, Glenn. Let's see what he thinks/says.

Count my vote for adding the 'telltale' to indicate they are copies. Depending on some future drum buyer to know that they are too perfect to be original is optimistic at best.
We all get so angry at the idea of a faked 'anything else'. Why is this ok?

????? Dan, That's a really poor analogy/comparison.
Nothing 'sinister' is going on. "Faked" implies a conscious attempt at intentional deception. Your choice of words to describe the repro's under discussion is a complete mischaracterization - at best. "This is ok" because Glenn very generously offered to print up some tags for VDF members who own vintage Dyna's so they can at least have a repro copy of the original paperwork that came with the drum.
Nobody is -selling- anybody anything. If (hypothetically) one or more tags find their way onto the marketplace, I don't think any 'significant harm' will come of it anyway. We're not talking about 'flooding the market' with hundreds of these. Realistically speaking... it's not a 'criminal enterprise' and we're talking about just a few of these being made and distributed to VDF members for free... that's why it's ok.
As I see it, whether we mark them repro or not is a, no harm, no foul situation. Glenn has a good heart, he's only trying to do something nice for the guys in our little community. Nothing more serious than that going on.

Wayne, John, Glenn: as originators and facilitators of this idea, I thank you. As I said before, I think Dan's idea to mark the tags as "repro's" has value and gets my vote. Not for a second do I see any intention to mislead anyone into thinking they are buying a drum with an original tag, if perchance a drum is sold in the future with one of these reproductions. I don't think Dan was saying that at all. It simply maintains the integrity of the marketplace. I'm not a wordsmith, just a guy who likes to bang on drums. I hope this idea comes to fruition, as it was originally conceived. As John said, Glenn, its your call.

Hello everyone!
First let me thank all of you that posted your thoughts and concerns. All are very valid points across the board. I've had some time read all the comments and to think it over.
That said I'm doing this run of tags as is. No repro marking. I took this on to be a fun project and to give back something to a great community. And to make a cool tag for the dynasonic snare we all know and love. No more no less. So at this point I don't see the need to change things as intended. As John said it'll be VERY easy to tell these are new. Crystal clear copy and non original tag type will be easy to spot. They will be quite different from the originals.
If this item (or any others) were ever to be marketed and sold then there would be several changes. People who supply and contribute originals would need to be paid. And a host of other legal and copyright things looked into as well. Each piece would be unique to the laws that apply. There's a lot involved at that level. I'm just not there. Also as mentioned what's to stop someone else from making them and other things too. It's endless and you start to over think things. So thanks it's been a great discussion. I hope there's no hurt feelings. As someone once said..... "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". ;)
Well said, Glenn. I'm still in. Will await the other thread and further instuctions. Thanks again for all the hard work.
Hugh
